Preheat the oven to 200°C /gas mark 6.
Cut the sheet of pastry into four pieces lengthways and six pieces across the width to make 24 small squares. Place in a shallow non-stick bun tin. Prick the middle of each piece of pastry two or three times with the tines of a fork. Brush with the beaten egg, then add ½ teaspoon of goat’s cheese to the centre of each square and push a piece of fig on top.
Bake in the oven for 10 to 15 minutes, until the pastry is puffed up and golden. Serve warm with the caramelised red onion relish.
