Chilli con carne Chilli con carne

This dish is packed with flavour and perfect for casual get togethers or family meals.

  • 1 pinch Black Pepper
  • 1 pinch Cayenne Pepper or chilli flakes (optional)
  • 2 cloves Garlic crushed
  • 1 tbsp Ground Cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp Ground Cumin
  • 1 tbsp Honey
  • 1 tin Kidney Beans (400g) drained and rinsed
  • 500 g Lean Round Steak Mince
  • 1 - Lime juice only
  • 2 tbsp Olive Oil
  • 1 - Onion finely diced
  • 1 tbsp Paprika
  • 3 - Red Chilli deseeded and finely diced
  • 1 - Red Pepper chopped
  • 1 pinch Salt
  • 1 handfull SuperValu Fresh Coriander chopped
  • 500 g Tomatoes ripe and chopped
  • 1 - Yellow Pepper chopped

To Serve

  • 1 pack Brown Rice steamed
  • 1 pack SuperValu Grated Cheddar Cheese
  • 1 bunch SuperValu Iceberg Lettuce shredded
  • 1 tbsp Supervalu Guacamole Dip


  1. Heat the oil in a large saucepan over a medium-high heat. Add the onion and sauté for 10 minutes before adding the chillies, bell peppers and garlic. Cook for a few minutes more, then add the minced beef and spices. Cook until meat has browned, then add the chopped tomatoes and simmer for 20 minutes.
  2. Stir in the kidney beans and lime juice and simmer for another 5 minutes, then add the fresh coriander and honey to taste. If you like it spicier, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or some dried chilli flakes. Season well with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
  3. Serve in warmed bowls on a bed of brown rice, topped with shredded lettuce, a dollop of guacamole and some grated Cheddar.
