4 - Apple
1 - Fresh Egg
Preheat the oven to 180 degrees.
Grease the cake tin and line with greaseproof paper.
Slowly melt the butter in a saucepan until golden brown and then allow to cool.
Add the melted butter to the sugar, egg and apple sauce in a large bowl and mix.
In a separate large bowl, add the dry ingredients; flour, baking soda, cinnamon and salt. Then combine and mix the wet and dry mixtures.
Add the mixture to the cake tin and then bake for 30-35 mins and then leave on a rack to cool.
For the brown butter icing:
Slowly melt the butter in a saucepan until golden brown and then chill for 1 hour. Once chilled, beat the butter with a mixer until light. Slowly sieve the icing sugar into the bowl, continually mixing until light and fluffy.
Spread over the brown butter icing, once the apple cake is cooled and cut into slices to serve with a drizzle of caramel.
