Rich Fruity Mincemeat


Makes 8-10 x 350g jars. Make up to six weeks prior to use to get the best flavour. This makes the perfect gift and keeps up to three months.

Serves: 8 people

  • 50 g Almonds
    cut into slivers
  • 175 ml Brandy 350ml
  • 15 g Cinnamon
  • 250 g Currants
  • 115 g Mixed Peel
    finely chopped
  • 115 g Raisins
  • 175 g Shredded Suet
  • 115 g Sultanas
  • 300 g SuperValu Brown Sugar
  • 500 g SuperValu Cooking Apple
  • 1 - SuperValu Lemon
    zest and juice
  • 15 g SuperValu Mixed Spice
  • 1 - SuperValu Orange
    zest and juice
  • 1 pinch SuperValu Salt


  1. Peel and core the apples and slice into thin matchstick slices or use a grater.
  2. Place the mixed peel, suet and dried fruit into a bowl and add the apple.
  3. Add the juice and rind of the orange and lemon and stir through, then add the sugar, cinnamon, brandy and almonds, mixing well to combine all the ingredients.
  4. Stir in the remaining ingredients and place in a cool place for a minimum of 24 hours.
  5. Transfer the mixture into sterilised jars, cover and label.
