The Kavanagh Group have an exciting opportunity for a Finance Director to join their team, based in Westport, Co. Mayo.

About the Company

The Kavanagh Group is a family-owned company comprised of retail stores and a hotel. The retail stores are 10 Supervalu stores in ROI, 1 Centra store in Northern Ireland and 3 Budgens stores in the UK. The group also owns several small shopping centres with commercially let units. The hotel is The Wyatt Hotel in Westport. Their beginnings as an independent local retailer and their experience operating multiple businesses allow them to combine the benefits and enhanced services of a corporate company with a personal touch. In addition, the partnership with Musgrave, the owners of the SuperValu and Centra brands, gives them the purchasing strength of a large retail company.

About the Role

The Finance Director will be a member of the Kavanagh Group senior management team and will contribute to the development and implementation of an effective business strategy for the Kavanagh Group.

The Finance Director will work directly with Group Chairman Noel Kavanagh and Managing Director Noel Kavanagh Jnr and lead a team of 10 people working in the Accounts team. The Finance Director will be a member of the Board for the Kavanagh Group.

The successful candidate will also work with the Operations Directors in ROI and UK, HR Manager and Managers of each business unit.

Key Responsibilities

• Be an active and effective member of the management team by contributing to the establishment, delivery and achievement of the group`s growth strategy and objectives.
• Support the identification of business development and growth opportunities for the group.
• Manage the acquisitions process and liaise with relevant external parties such as legal counsel, banks etc as appropriate.
• Assist in the development of the financial skills of the Management team.
• Participate fully in Leadership meetings, expressing own views convincingly and supporting and challenging fellow colleagues appropriately.
• Manage and lead the Finance/Accounts team to ensure that they are highly engaged and have the skill sets, resources and support needed to deliver in their role and achieve their objectives.
• Ensure Financial Systems are as effective as possible to deliver the required information to the business.
• Engage with other teams to ensure shared responsibility and accountability for controls where relevant.
• Manage the testing of specific controls and implement any required actions.
• Lead / support on projects as required.

Candidate Profile

• 6-8 years post qualification experience in a senior Financial and Leadership role.
• Proven experience as an effective Board or Senior Management team member.
• Experience of dealing with external institutions - banks, auditors, legal etc.
• Production of high-level business reports for distribution to both internal and external audiences.
• Experience in the strategic business planning process
• Highly data rational with excellent technical and analytical skills.
• Excellent flexibility and adaptability within management style.
• Strong commercial acumen, be results focused, solutions oriented and a pragmatic problem solver.
• Comfortable working in a fast moving, dynamic, customer-oriented environment with a strong operational focus.
• Professional Accountancy Qualification - ACA, CIMA, ACCA or equivalent

Desirable

• Third level qualification specialising in Business/ Finance
• Knowledge of statutory reporting, taxation management, treasury management
