Halloween Games

These ghoulish games will add even more to your Halloween! From treasure hunts to dancing to spooky Halloween songs, your night will be filled with fun. Most of the games below can be played using household items. If you're missing anything, simply drop down to Supervalu where you'll find everything you need.

Pin the Spider on the Web

A Halloween variation on pinning the tail on the donkey can be just as much fun and is easy to prepare.

All you need is:

  • A web & spider template
  • Some card and glue/spray mount
  • Markers/paint/coloured pencils
  • Double sided tape (or roll up some sellotape, sticky side out)
  • A blindfold

Method

  1. For this game all you will need to do is print out a spider's web and spider template. You can colour in the web and the spider with paint or coloured pencils. If you want to make the game stronger you can spray mount the template on some card. Mount the paper spider on some card to and carefully cut him out – watch those legs!
  2. Put the double sided tape on the back of the spider.
  3. Someone puts on the blindfold and tries to put the spider in the centre of the web.
  4. To make it more fun you could draw ‘points’ on the web with maximum points for a “bulls eye” and less points the further away you pin the spider!

Eyeball Hunt

Have eye popping family fun with this easy to prepare game. The one who finds the most eyeballs wins so keep your eyes peeled!

Note: You might want to use aprons and cover the floor – this can get messy!

All you will need for this fun game is:

  • Ping pong balls
  • A large bowl
  • Spaghetti or noodles (& tomato sauce, optional)
  • Plain poster or watercolour paint
  • A small paintbrush

Method

  1. We’re going to use the ping-pong balls as “eyeballs”. You can simply use plain ping-pong balls to save time but it is even more fun to decorate them first. Simply, take a small paintbrush and paint a coloured (green, blue, brown, etc) circle around the size of a euro coin.
  2. Paint a smaller black circle inside this for the pupil.
  3. Using a very thin paint brush or simply a cocktail stick, trace the bloodshot veins with red paint around the ‘eyeball’.
  4. Now you have your scary eyeballs, cook up a pot of spaghetti, drain it and let it cool. (Add some tomato sauce for fake blood if you like!)
  5. Transfer the cool spaghetti into a bowl and hide the eyeballs in it.
  6. Now try to find the eyeballs with your hands! To add a twist you can give different coloured eyes different points. The one with the most points wins!

Pass the Pumpkin Party Game

Here’s a Halloween take on the traditional pass the parcel with music, movement and lots of laughs.

All you need for this game is:

  • Mini Pumpkins
  • Music
  • Paint or Markers

Method

  1. Arrange some chairs in a circle and start the music.
  2. The players pass the pumpkin until the music stops.
  3. Whoever is holding the pumpkin when the music stops is out.
  4. As players become “out”, send them to an area where you have set up a table with a cloth covering it where they can decorate their pumpkin.
  5. You can have a prize for the best pumpkin once they have all been decorated.

Monster Freeze!

If your little monsters are dressed up for Halloween why not try this variant on the Halloween disco?

You can play CDs or link your music to a Halloween themed playlist on Spotify or iTunes. Search for a Halloween themed selection of songs. Songs you might want to use, include:

  • Monster Mash – Bobby Boris Pickett & The Crypt-Kickers
  • Frantics – Werewolf
  • The Rocky Horror Picture Show – Time Warp
  • Ray Parker Jr. – Ghostbusters

Method

  1. Once you have your playlist, everyone dances to the music until it stops. Everyone has to freeze and the first one to move is out!
  2. Keep going until there is one winner left and start again!

Halloween Treasure Hunt

Everyone loves a treasure hunt – especially if there are “treats” hidden around the house! So spend a little time finding some hiding places around the house (or even in the garden if it’s not too cold) to put some little bags containing chocolate money or other treats. Whoever finds the treasure wins!

Freaky Family Photos

This activity will keep the kids occupied while also providing some more great Halloween themed decorations for the house.

You will need:

  • A black and white photocopy of a family portrait
  • Tea bags
  • Orange Card, paper and markers
  • Glue
  • Fake spider web

Method

  1. Take the black and white photocopy of the portrait.
  2. “Age” the card by wiping it with a damp tea bag. This will add a ‘sepia’ effect that will make the picture look ancient.
  3. You can cut out the eyes of the photos and stick the orange card behind the picture to replace the eyes.
  4. As an added touch, why not cut out ‘fangs’ from white paper and glue them to the people in the picture.
  5. Mount the picture on card and stick it in a frame in front of a normal family portrait for Halloween.
  6. As an extra touch, drape the picture in fake spider web!
