Togher

Togher committee member, Noreen Crowley, tells us how much winning the inaugural Youth Award meant to the area.

Togher Tidy Towns won the inaugural SuperValu Youth Award in last year’s competition.

The award was in recognition for the TACT Garden a small horticulture initiative run by the local Foroige, GYDP, (Garda Youth Diversion Project). The garden won the regional and overall prize of €2000 and fostered such a sense of pride and achievement for all those who had worked on the project; it augers well for the future of our youth.

SuperValu Togher has sponsored many events and projects for Togher Tidy Towns since 2007 when we first entered the competition. This generous support both financial and on the ground has enabled us to put in place a composting and recycling project, shrubs, trees, flower boxes and to tackle and landscape litter blackspots. They have also provided a shed for storing equipment, high-vis jackets, tools, bags and on busy days food and water for the troops. We are currently putting together a 3 year plan for the Tidy Towns competition and SuperValu will again be our main sponsor for some of the bigger planned projects.

Togher Community Association and Togher Tidy Towns have served the community well over the last 15 years providing facilities for all ages to enjoy recreational activities including Youth Café, Togher Boxing Club, Soccer Clubs, Senior Clubs and many more too numerous to mention. From its infancy in 1969 right up to today Togher Community Association has plenty to be proud of and a debt of gratitude to all who have given their time to volunteer for their community.
