Treats by Sylvia

My name is Sylvia Kennedy, I am a sole trader in the baking business and owner of Treats by Sylvia. Treats by Sylvia is based in Dublin and was established in 2021.

My specialty is cheesecakes, which are freshly handmade using the highest quality of ingredients and packaged in recyclable plastic. My cheesecake are light and creamy, rich in aroma flavours and different to anything else you will taste on the market.

Prior to Treats by Sylvia, I worked as a Customer Care Representative for a national security company, where I held this position for 8+ years. During COVID I was advised to work from home, whilst working from home I had a lot of spare time in the mornings and evenings due to no commute. I used this advantage to bake. I have always had a passion for baking and it shows in all my products. When the time came to return to the office, I decided to take a chance and setup my own business, doing something I thoroughly enjoyed.

I setup a meeting with my Local Enterprise Office and got all the help and support I needed to setup and run a business. I completed many courses that would benefit me, ‘Start Your Own Business Course’ and the ‘Young Entrepreneurs Programme’. I completed all relevant Food Safety Courses and then went on to register my business ‘Treats by Sylvia’. I had a Kitchen Unit built at the back of my home, solely for baking purposes and was approved by the FSAI. I was now a fully registered Food Safety Authority Compliant Business along with been fully insured for both Public and Product Liability Insurance.

In February 2022, I became a supplier to my first location, The Ballyfermot Civic Centre. I was then contacted by Spar Ballyfermot and SuperValu Rowlagh along with many other shops and cafes to follow. I received daily sell outs and it has been a huge success to date. I also supply to many Corporate Events like Citi Bank, Inner City Enterprise, BDO Ireland, Grant Thornton Ireland and Dublin City Council. I have been invited to Citi Bank and Grant Thornton as a Guest Speaker and I have also hosted International Women’s Day and many other events.

One of my happiest accomplishments to date was when I was contacted by ’The Echo Newspaper’ to do a full write up on my business. It was available to buy in store and also features online.

Most recent I was accepted for the SuperValu Food Academy programme, This course has been such a huge help to put me in the right direction of where I need to be, and the standards I need to have in place for my business to excel further.

In February 2024, I will be moving into a larger Kitchen Unit and hiring a Kitchen Assistant, to help with the growth and upscale of my business.
