Sugar Plum Sweetery

The business is owned and managed by husband and wife team Denise Buckley and David Quirke. We setup Sugar Plum Sweetery a chocolatier, confectionary & gifting brand in June 2022. Our Boutique Store and Chocolate Factory is located in the centre of Mullingar, nextdoor to our healthy casual style restaurant Wholesome Kitchen. The naughty and nice for a very balanced world. Our chefs and Master Chocolatiers make all of our chocolate and bakery creations on site 7 days a week. We make all of our products from scratch including as many ingredients as possible, such as, our bestselling (secret recipe) salted caramel, coconut ganache, honeycomb, Florentine etc. We were confectionary lovers for years and spotted a niche in the market for a new and innovative chocolate, confectionary and gifting brand. We spent over two years researching the market and planning the launch of our online business, shop and now after a year in operation we’re planning our wholesale wonderland.

We make delicious creations for every occasion, all are made by hand in small batches fresh every day. We have crafted some delicious creations including our recent award winning Chocolate Florentine (Irish Quality Food & Drink Awards & Blas nah Eireann Irish Food Awards) which comes in slab, shards and clusters format. Our bestselling Chocolate Bash Cakes are ideal for any celebration as they come with a hammer to smash them open and are filled full of pick and mix. Our salted caramel frogs or bars are a delicious favourite, our sauce is made from scratch using the finest Irish Butter and Achill Sea Salt. We use local Mullingar honey in our Chocolate Honeycomb product which gives it the delicious honey flavour.

Our company is very focused on sustainability and minimising our impact on the environment. We have partnered with Self Help Africa and have planted over 10,000 trees to date to help offset our emissions from our production kitchen. All of our packaging is recyclable and we’re currently sourcing compostable packaging for as many new products as possible.

We have found the training, support and development received as part of the SuperValu Food Academy has had a phenomenal impact on our business. From a planning, strategy and mentoring perspective it has immensely helped us to focus on bringing our first products to wholesale which would not have been possible without the programme.
