Melody Farm Eggs was founded in 2020 during COVID when founder Frank travel plans cancelled and sought a new challenge alongside his remote job. Frank decided to establish Melody Farm Eggs on the family dairy farm.
He started with 400 hens, a mobile hen house—aptly named The Egg Mobile—a few temporary poultry fences, and plenty of enthusiasm. By 2021, he had built a steady market for his eggs through an on-farm, self-service honesty box. However, a challenge soon arose: Frank, who worked as an aviation lawyer, was called back to Dublin for his day job. This could have marked the end of Melody Farm Eggs—until he offered me, Joe, the opportunity to join him as a partner. Together, we not only kept the business running but also expanded it.
Our farm is nestled under the shadow of the historic Bunratty Castle. From the beginning, our vision was to create a family-based enterprise, and we are proud to now partner with a young local farmer producing eggs the Melody Farm way, giving him the opportunity to build an exciting career in agriculture.
Our eggs are classified as pasture-raised, meaning our hens have regular access to fresh, high-quality grass through a rotational grazing system. This practice is essential, as the grass serves as a natural superfood, enhancing the yolk’s rich, amber colour and providing superior texture and nutritional quality. We keep our hens in small flocks and prioritize their welfare above all—because a happy hen lays an excellent egg.
The SuperValu Food Academy has given us invaluable insights, encouraging us to reassess our business through market research, branding and marketing.
