I am Edizemi Onilenla a.k.a MamaShee. My passion for food combined with the desire to bring a taste of Africa into the Irish Culture inspired me to start this business. I have lived in Ireland for over 17 years. During this period I had developed Kilishi (beef Jerky) using traditional West African recipes blended with Irish cooking styles to introduce a taste of West African food culture that I highly cherished, to the Irish consumers.
Mansions Foods started officially on the 15th of May 2019 and it is my desire to promote my products – ‘Kilishi and Suya’ in stores around the Republic of Ireland and beyond. There have been beef jerky in the Irish market, but none is close in taste and class like my Suya and Kilishi. These products are new both in ingredients composition and processing. Both products are high in protein with natural ingredients with no preservatives or additives, but they are simply exotic and their tastes can be addictive.
Kilishi and Suya have roots in Northern Nigeria where they are very popular past-time snacks. I was born in Nigeria and I grew up in this part of the country. I currently produce from the Acorn Kitchen Balitore, County Kildare. Cooking to me is an art, and is natural part of me, a God-given talent and I am always happy and at my best when cooking. The desire to start this business came also from feedback from friends who felt that these products will thrive well in the market especially among sports enthusiasts, youths, as well as on social evenings over some glasses of wine. They can be eaten as add-ons to salads, pastas, rice and any other food based on taste
The Food Academy programme is a SuperValu’s initiative aimed at giving small producers with potentials the chance to grow/breakthrough. I had gained enormously and acquired unquantifiable experience from this programme, which has also afforded me an opportunity to grow my business and drive my dream through the SuperValu chain. It is my hope and desire that Mansions Foods aside infusing new taste into the existing exotic Irish food culture, will grow big enough to create job opportunities for people who are interested and passionate about food and making an impact with their food innovations.
