Irish Craft Soda Co.

The Irish Craft Soda Company is the brainchild of Dead Centre Brewing in Athlone, Co. Westmeath. Since opening the doors of their brewing facility on the banks of the River Shannon in February 2019, Dead Centre has carved out a reputation for innovation and quality.

Headed by Liam Tutty (formerly of Rye River Brewing in Co. Kildare), Liam won Best Business Idea in Westmeath at the 2018 IBYE competition and had his own craft brewery, bar and restaurant fully operational less than a year later. Since then, Dead Centre has progressed to win various awards including an Irish Pub Award, Irish Restaurant Award, Food and Drink Award, Midlands 103 Business Award as well as being shortlisted in The Pitch, The Start-Up Awards, The Style Awards, The Hospitality Awards and many more.

Liam’s interest in beverage production started young. His grandmother had (and still has) two small apple trees and each year Liam would press the windfall from these trees to make apple juice and later apple cider. Having spent a year in Australia and New Zealand in 2007/2008, Liam returned with a taste for beers which weren’t available in Ireland.

This led to, what quickly became, an obsession with homebrewing and eventually a change of career. Liam holds a BA in Media and Marketing and worked for 10 years in the radio industry before leaving a management role in iRadio to join the team at Rye River Brewing (the story is long, but good…google it)!

During lockdown, and with Dead Centre’s Brewery, Pub and restaurant all out of action, the plan was hatched for their next adventure…The Irish Craft Soda Company.

In a market where craft beer was in constant flux and evolving quickly, the crew in Dead Centre couldn’t help but notice that the Irish soda scene had remained quiet. Well not anymore!

With a firm focus on using fewer, but higher quality ingredients, The Irish Craft Soda Company’s Lemonade is made using only four natural ingredients with no nasties thrown in and is here to say ‘no’ to boring, mass-produced soda.

Sodas that are full of sulphites, foaming agents, emulsifiers, colouring agents, a billion and one E numbers and who knows what else. Sodas that are imported and don’t provide employment in or lend support to their communities. Sodas that are happy to stay static and bland. No to all of you!
