Husband and wife team, John and Riva from Wicklow, set up Black Castle Drinks in 2015 named after an infamous castle in their hometown. Having lived abroad for a number of years, they returned home with a greater sense of pride for their little island and all it had to offer. The food, the drink, the culture, the laughs! With this is mind they set about producing a delicious range of craft sodas inspired by their wild Irish childhood and added their own contemporary twist.
Taking part in SuperValu’s Food Academy programme has proved an invaluable element to helping grow Black Castle Drinks as a business. While confident in their ideas and recipes, it helped John and Riva develop the skills to run a successful business and give them real insight into the food industry.
John and Riva hand make their drinks in Wicklow using locally sourced ingredients where possible and are on track to create 5 new jobs in their local area in the next 2 years. It is very important to them to promote Ireland as well as Co. Wicklow by continuing to support and sponsor local events. (Eg. Bray Jazz Festival, Insight Photography Exhibition for the Simon Community Dublin).
