Birds’ SuperValu Navan Launches Revamped Store Following €1 Million Investment
Navan, 17 December, 2025: Birds’ SuperValu Navan has officially reopened its newly revamped, state-of-the-art store following a €1 million investment. The extensive revamp delivers an enhanced shopping experience, with key offerings such as self-service checkouts and a brand-new look off licence. The upgraded store reflects the Bird family's continued investment in delivering a modern, high-quality retail experience for the Navan community.
With a renewed focus on fresh food and range, the store now features a new Meals Market with freshly prepared ready meals, an enhanced bakery range offering fresh cakes, an extended fruit and veg range and a new salad bar with a hot food to go counter. Customers can also enjoy Mercato, SuperValu’s Italian-inspired range, alongside SuperValu’s own-brand Signature Tastes range, featuring a wide selection of premium products for Christmas, including party food, desserts and seasonal favourites.
The Navan store was opened in 2006 by the Bird family who are celebrating 70 years in business. Located in the Beechmount Shopping centre, the store currently employs 55 people and takes great pride in its support of local producers including Ryans Cooked meats, Reynolds Farm, Martry Mills, Clarkes Fruit, Durnin’s Fruit & Veg among many others.
Sustainability has been placed at the heart of the redesign. The store now incorporates all new energy-efficient refrigeration and LED lighting throughout the store, helping to significantly reduce energy consumption. As part of the revamp, the store’s emissions will also be reduced by 25%, aligning with SuperValu’s wider commitment to environmentally responsible retailing.
Commenting on the launch, Jim Bird, store owner of Birds SuperValu Navan, said, “We are delighted to unveil our revamped store following a €1 million investment. As a second-generation retailer, I’ve had the privilege of watching this store evolve over many years and proud to say that SuperValu is the longest any brand has traded in Beechmount Shopping Centre. This latest investment reflects our commitment to continuous improvement and to staying ahead of changing consumer needs by offering the quality, choice and convenience our customers expect.
This revamp further modernises our store, with a focus on high-quality local produce and an enhanced, customer-centred shopping experience. It is particularly fitting that this transformation coincides with the 70th anniversary of my parents, Ollie & Phyllis Bird, starting the business in 1955. We look forward to welcoming customers into the newly upgraded store and hope they enjoy the benefits long into the future. Many of our long serving staff have made a huge effort in bringing the store to a very high standard and we appreciate all they do for our loyal customers”.
Since opening its doors Birds’ SuperValu has been proud to play an active role in the community. This includes sponsoring Navan SuperValu TidyTowns, local sports groups and good causes. The store is also available on Too Good To Go, a service which helps to prevent food waste. This long-standing dedication to local producers and community underlines SuperValu’s role at the heart of the Navan community.
