Food history
myth buster
You’ve probably heard the story that the sirloin steak
got its name from an old king of England who was so
impressed with the cut of beef that he knighted it Sir
Loin. Sadly, there’s no evidence to support this tale. It’s
more likely that the word comes from the old French
word surloigne: sur for above and loigne for loin. It still
tastes just as good though!
