SuperValu will work to positively impact the communities in which we operate through a focus on social, economic and environmental prosperity.

  • SuperValu has sponsored the TidyTowns competition since 1991, making it one of the longest running community sponsorships in Ireland.
  • SuperValu TidyTowns Competition inspires almost 30,000 passionate volunteers across 924 committees who give over 3 million hours of their time back to their community every year. 
  • 2022: SuperValu’s ‘Save the Bees’ competition saw 560,000 primary school children across 3,241 schools learn about the importance of bees and biodiversity.
  • 2023: SuperValu launched a new three-year partnership with GIY Ireland called SuperValu Let’s GROW to help 50,000 children from 1,600 schools and their families learn where food comes from.

At SuperValu, we understand the importance of helping shoppers to make more sustainable choices and we are continually expanding our sustainable ranges so shoppers can take action on reducing the carbon in their shopping trolley.

  • SuperValu are committed to providing more sustainable choices in-store through our ranges:

    • Packaging free fruit & vegetable ranges
    • Eco range
    • Taste of Local
  • Recycle / sustainability symbols will be more prevalent on our Own Brand packaging, making it easier for our shoppers to identify sustainable packaging options, as well as making it easier for shoppers to dispose of packaging correctly.

Supporting Local

SuperValu are committed to remaining the largest supporter of the Irish food industry and to sourcing sustainably and ethically, as well as continuing to support over 1,800 Irish suppliers.

  • In partnership with Guaranteed Irish, we believe in buying Irish and supporting local and for every €1 spent on Irish goods, €5 comes back to the Irish economy.
  • SuperValu’s Food Academy programme, run in conjunction with Bord Bia and the Local Enterprise Offices, gives start-up food and drink producers an opportunity to get their products on SuperValu shelves 52 weeks of the year.
  • Now in its tenth year, the programme works with over 300 small producers and supports over 1,500 Irish jobs.
  • Food Academy products are available in the Taste of Local section in-store.

Inclusion & Diversity

SuperValu, along with the GAA, are committed to increasing participation in GAA sports among people from diverse backgrounds by 30% by 2025

  • Launched in 2021, SuperValu’s ‘Community Includes Everyone’ campaign aims to highlight the importance of diversity and inclusion in the GAA, and ultimately, the power of diversity in community.
  • SuperValu has sponsored the Cork Senior Ladies Football Team since 2014. Our sponsorship of the country’s most successful ladies’ team is now entering its 10th year.
