28th September 2015 - Togher TidyTowns received the national title of SuperValu Youth Award today. The TidyTowns committee was recognised for its role in making the community of Togher a better place for all age groups to live, work and play.
The SuperValu Youth Award, new to the national SuperValu TidyTowns competition this year, celebrates the contribution of young people to TidyTowns activities and how working together delivers benefit to those of all ages in the community. Regional awards were presented, with Togher winning the overall title. On hand to present the prize was Martin Kelleher, Managing Director of SuperValu, with the announcement greeted with great celebration. SuperValu is the competition’s main sponsor for 24 years, making it one of Ireland’s longest running sponsorships.
Speaking at the ceremony, Martin Kelleher, Managing Director, SuperValu said, “The addition of the SuperValu Youth Award this year is indicative of the growing momentum behind the SuperValu TidyTowns competition. These youth volunteers have made an outstanding contribution to their local area, bettering their community as a result.”

The Helix in Dublin was packed with 1,000 representatives of TidyTowns groups from all over the country for the awards ceremony. Interest in the SuperValu TidyTowns competition has been consistently high and this year marked the highest number of entries to date with 862 towns and villages entering into the competition.
The TidyTowns competition is organised by the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government and has been sponsored by SuperValu since 1992.
