Hardy Food

Kilkenny sisters Rosemarie and Sile Hardy decided to reduce wheat, sugar, salt and processed food in their families’ diets. The next step was to turn this passion for healthy eating into a business and find a way to bring their nutritious oat loafs to market.

The loafs, handmade with hardy Irish oats, come in three varieties, Plain, Seeded and Fruit & Nut. Free from flour, sugar, butter and salt, they are full of goodness and their soluble fibres can help lower cholesterol. Rosemarie and Sile love to use them as a breakfast bread, as it’s like a bowl of porridge in a slice.

The sisters completed a Food Academy course run by their local Kilkenny Enterprise Office. SuperValu then accepted their product for trial in-store, which gave them a priceless opportunity to bring their healthy eating message and wholesome bread to a wider audience.  

The next step is to grow the business, hopefully employ two more people in their local area and bring new products to market. Watch this space!
