Clew Bay Cookies is based in Louisburgh, County Mayo on the Wild Atlantic Way.
We developed 3 flavours - chocolate chip, white chocolate chip and mint/chocolate chip cookies, designed our packaging in-house and created our brand Clew Bay Cookies. Our packaged product was launched at the end of August 2016.
As it says on our packaging…..Our cookie story all started when our son asked us to take cookies on his birthday to football training for the team! Our much loved family recipe was a success! Our chocolate chip cookies are all natural, made from scratch, fresh and full of flavour made with real Irish butter and Belgian chocolate.
My husband James is from Michigan and I am from Derry. We lived in the States for 6 years and relocated to Louisburgh on the Wild Atlantic Way in Mayo 4 years ago with our 2 boys Joseph and Kevin. Prior to launching our food business my husband was in construction and I was in sales and marketing. Our food journey began when my son requested chocolate chip cookies on his birthday to share with his GAA team at the Louisburgh pitch one Saturday morning and everyone loved them including one lady who commented ‘Lisa this is so good I can’t stop eating it’.
We carried out market research in 2015 at local markets and food events to see if there was a demand for our product. Consumer feedback was positive with comments like “I am going back to Boston next week and I will never find a cookie like this one” and other comments such as “Can you ship to London?”
We have grown our brand through social media channels and attending food industry events such as: Westport Food Festival, Taste of Donegal and Blas na hEireann Irish Food Awards. We won Gold at Blas na hEireann in the Sweet Snack and Biscuit Category 2016. This recognition is a massive achievement for our family run business. (For scale, among the finalists in our category was Dragon’s Den millionaire Alison Cowzer, co-owner of multi-million-euro East Coast Bakehouse, which specializes in biscuits).
We participated in the Food Academy recently and will now be launching our product into SuperValu stores in the near future. It’s every exciting for small food producers like ourselves to participate in the Food Academy and for SuperValu to commit to supporting locally made food and Irish communities. 75% of SuperValu’s products are sourced from Irish suppliers and through the Food Academy they are offering Clew Bay Cookies a chance to be part of this success story. We are passionate about good food made in Ireland and creating jobs right here at home.
