Gary and I took over Bidlims Moods in Febuary 2016. We are located in Mountaintop Letterkenny. We spent the first 6 months on our marketing, labelling and design and looking for and setting up the ideal unit space. Since August 2015, we have been working hard to get our name out there and feel now that things are starting to show green shoots.
The business was originally my Mother’s Cottage Industry that she set up in the 80’s. My Mother’s name is Briege and she hailed from Dromiskin in Co. Louth. She came from a big family and her nickname in the family was Bidlims. She met my father Cormac working in Dublin in the 1960’s, married and moved to the Hills Of Donegal. As a young lady in a new area, she joined the local ICA where she started making her own Jam and Chutneys. In the 1980’s she started her Little Cottage Industry in Gweedore. She never used any artificial additives or pectins and we have carried that tradition on to this day.
The Food Academy programme provided us with the knowledge of how to run a food business.
Being accepted onto the Food Academy gave us such a boost in confidence to keep going. We are so excited to see our products on shelves and our customers share this excitement.
We have recently employed our first employee and hope to employ another in the New Year thanks to the help of the Food Academy programme.
